Els Diables de Sant Andreu

These photos are from Els Diables de Sant Andreu, or the Devils of Sant Andreu, a group who performs pyrotechnics for various festivals, but most importantly, for the Festa Major (or Grand Festival). These are images from last year, that I really love, and this next week this festival in our neighborhood begins again. I’m not sure if I will shoot, but I might. It’s always a grand spectacle and interesting cultural event. It’s mostly fun and fireworks, but also an intriguing kind of defiance; a celebration of darkness and revelry by a people long ruled by an oppressive church. It’s a fascinating group, and definitely a draw for a photographer. We’ll see what I get this year. I’m sure I can’t stay away.
